9 Terrific Toppings to Make Oatmeal Special

Oatmeal is a great way to start your day. It contains plenty of nutrients and fibre, and is very filling and satisfying. A healthy breakfast is essential for a healthy lifestyle, and oatmeal makes a great choice.

Here are 10 ways that you can change things up a bit and get some variety in your breakfast!

1. Apple Pie Oatmeal:

Do you love apple pie? Try adding chopped apples, walnuts, cinnamon and a slight drizzle of pure maple syrup for a delicious treat that adds great nutrient to your morning oatmeal.

2. Chocolate Oatmeal:

Add a drizzle of honey and a spoonful of unsweetened dark cocoa powder for an indulgent treat. Toss in a few dark chocolate chips for a real delight!

3. Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal:

Use a spoonful of canned pumpkin puree (this is different from pumpkin pie filling, which contains added sugars), and sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, cloves or nutmeg, and you will think you are enjoying a wonderful fall dessert, not just a plain breakfast!

4. Egg and Herb Oatmeal:

Instead of putting milk on your oatmeal or brown sugar, try topping your bowl with a poached egg, some tasty herbs and perhaps a splash of Sriracha hot sauce for a delicious option.

5. Cheese and Avocado Oatmeal:

You may not have thought about this option, but adding a little grated cheese, a few slices of avocado and a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil makes your oatmeal not only a well-balanced breakfast but an interesting meal!

6. Nutty Banana Oatmeal:

Toss in a sliced banana and a heaping spoonful of almond butter or all-natural peanut butter for a delicious twist.

7. Trail Mix Oatmeal:

Adding any kind of seeds to your oatmeal, like chia, sesame, flax, or pumpkin seeds, then adding a handful of raisins makes it into a neat trail mix meal.

8. Greek Yoghurt Oatmeal:

Instead of milk, stir plain Greek yoghurt into your oatmeal for great texture.

9. Very Berry Oatmeal:

Top your oatmeal with a pile of mixed fresh berries for a sweet topping. Stir the berries in while the oatmeal is cooking and spread the flavor throughout.
