Anise Pillows/Pfefferneuse
The name translates to pepper nuts in German, Danish and Dutch, describing their spicy taste as well as the fact that the recipe calls for a small amount of pepper.

Directions
In small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, lemon peel, salt, spices and pepper; set aside.
In large bowl, beat together margarine and sugar until creamy; beat in egg.
Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
Stir in walnuts and anise seed.
Drop dough by teaspoonfuls, 2 inch apart, on lightly greased baking sheets.
Bake at 350℉ (180℃). for 15 to 17 minutes.
Cool slightly on wire racks.
Roll in confectioners' sugar while still warm; cool completely.

How is this calculated?
While I was making this I worried the spices were going to be too subtle and considered doubling the nutmeg and cloves, and now I really wish I had. Following this recipe exactly will make far too bland of a cookie-- although the texture comes out very nice. Do yourself a favor-- up the spice.
