Saint Patrick's feast day, has been celebrated in Ireland for hundreds of years. Green cloth and shamrocks were wore to celebrate Saint Patrick’s day as early as the 17th century. It is a public holiday in Ireland, Newfoundland (Canada) and Montserrat and is widely celebrated throughout the US and Canada particularly in New York and Chicago where parades are held and rivers are even dyed green. Other countries that celebrate “St. Paddy’s Day” are Argentina, Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand, among others.
